Making of Lucia Kannada Songs – Jamma Jamma

Naveen Sajju’s refinement over time has made him reach closer to the Legends

This song is known for using a unique percussion instrument commonly used across Karnataka called ‘Thamate’. Already making headlines and not sung by likes of Sonu Nigam or Kunal Ganjawala or Kailash Kher, but by a Mysore talent who earlier used to sing in orchestras and weddings. His name is Naveen Sajju. He hails from Bellikere, a village in Mandya district. Due to his Kannada oral, a version widely spoken in the Mysore region, the music director had to, from the scratch, train Naveen for playback singing. Surrounded by naysayers and sceptics, Naveen gave his fullest to train himself and sing this song; I tip my hat..!! Pawan, the brain child behind Project Lucia, in one of his making video says the Naveen has been an important asset for Project Lucia and a good find for the Kannada movie industry.

For this song the brief from Pawan was to bring the innocence of the Karnataka folklore into this happy song. The snap shot of the song that was obvious for the music director to look out for was that of Tamate, a very common instrument used around Mysore area where the director Poornachandra Thejaswi hails from. The interesting thing about the song is that during its composition dummy lyrics were used which apparently became the actual lyrics of the released song. Actually, Pawan wanted the Lucia movie songs to come from the pens of Yograj Bhat.

Let us get back the spot light on Naveen Sajju for a while. Naveen who used to sing in front of a crowd of 200-300 people in an orchestra, was intimidated by a closed studio, songs that were never sung and that it is going be listened by the entire state.  Pawan and Poornachandra Thejaswi had one tough time to make this guy sing in a studio. They also recollect the days when Naveen was the problem child in the studio, where instead of listening to the instructions he challenged the rest to sing. There were also days where the problem child was confronted and confined with the firmness of the music director. End of the day the director and the music director had only praising words for this young lad.

Lucia movie is the most awaited movie of the year and will be released on 6th of September 2013. Watch and let us have your comments  for the Lucia Kannada Movie…!!!
